You generally shouldn’t judge a person by initial appearances, but then again, considering one of the primary characters in the current storyline of Genshin Impact is literally referred to as the Ruler of Death, it’s a pretty safe bet that they’re not a good person. This rather on-the-nose NPC will be a primary feature for the gacha RPG’s Version 7.1 update, which is slated to arrive on Wednesday, September 23rd.
This confrontation is front and center for the update’s primary story arc, as players are being promised a face-to-face with the Tsaritsa of the Snezhnaya region and join the fight on the front lines in order to face Ronova, the Ruler of Death. Players will be able to earn a big stack of primogems for completing this quest, while the update will also see Ronova added as a weekly boss fight and introduce additional missions from the Tsaritsa herself.
As with other GI updates, this one will also introduce a pair of new characters in the form of Vesna, a five-star Anemo element sword wielder, and Vodyanitsa, a five-star Hydro catalyst user. Both of these characters will be in the same banner during the first half of the patch’s release.
After all of the dire circumstances, players will probably want to party, which is where the return of the Moonchase Festival in Liyue comes into play, promising three new minigames, a new four-star sword reward, and the promise of some mystery narrative beats. There will be other events lined up as well, like a seasonal snowball event in Snexhnaya, a tournament prediction event in Natlan, and a celebration of the game’s sixth anniversary.
