Itch.io is reducing AI spam and making it easier for gen AI-conscientious users to spot and avoid such content if they please.

Itch.io is strengthening its moderation and filtering of generative AI content on its platform following the mass removal of an alleged 10 TBs of “AI slop.”

The indie gaming platform shared initial word of its mass content dump on November 2, 2026. While Itch.io does not ban AI content outright, it does demand that users not submit low-level, unpolished, and broken projects coded by AI models, and especially not in bulk quantities that could be considered “spamming.”

In order to better control what you see, we're adding Generative AI disclosure filtering to few more places on the site where it was critically lacking, including our search results page https://t.co/Z9dXncxdgx

With the flood of AI content that has come in and complicated the discovery of legitimate and quality games and media, Itch.io has reorganized its search tools to help users filter AI content out of their searches. You can simply choose the “No AI” filter to keep GenAI out of your searches altogether, or you can choose filters on art, sound, and other common AI features.

Disclosure still falls to the uploader and AI in games has already been a difficult ocean to tread, but Itch.io already has rules in place that promise penalties such as delisting and bans for failing to accurately disclose AI use in submissions.
