Bandai Namco has revealed Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale, a charming new rhythm-puzzle action-adventure from Metronomik that looks set to put music at the heart of a colourful journey inspired by Southeast Asian cultures.

Coming in 2027, the game will take players on a personal adventure with Kaya as she attempts to follow in her parents’ footsteps and become a Worldbuilder.

Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam.

  • Publisher: Bandai Namco
  • Genre: Rhythm-puzzle action-adventure

A Worldbuilder In The Making

Kaya has a pretty important test ahead of her. Hoping to become a Worldbuilder like her parents, she must travel across the world and gather the Giants before performing the Renewal Ritual, which is intended to rejuvenate its flavours.

Thankfully, Kaya isn’t heading into this adventure empty-handed. Armed with her trusty Spoon and the unique powers of the Ondeh, she’ll be able to interact with her surroundings, tackle puzzles and take on the eccentric creatures that stand in her way.

It’s a journey that’s as much about growing into her own as it is about overcoming the challenges placed before her, with themes of family, courage and self-discovery sitting at the centre of the adventure.

Follow The Beat

Music looks set to be one of the most distinctive elements of Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale. Rather than simply providing a soundtrack to Kaya’s journey, rhythm is being woven directly into the gameplay.

Players will need to follow the tempo as they explore, solve puzzles and fight their way through the world. The rhythm mechanics will also help Kaya navigate her surroundings, unlock new paths and empower her abilities, meaning the beat could prove just as important as the player’s ability to solve a puzzle or deal with an enemy.

The result? That should be an intriguing mix of genres that could give Kaya’s adventure plenty of personality when it eventually arrives.

A Vibrant Adventure Awaits

With its Southeast Asian-inspired setting, colourful presentation and unusual blend of rhythm, puzzles, exploration and action, Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale certainly isn’t struggling for character.

There is still plenty more to discover about Kaya’s journey, but this first announcement provides an appealing glimpse at an adventure where every beat could help shape the world around her.

Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam.
