Uta Macross Is Making a Comeback Soon Across Multiple Platforms

Uta Macross is making a comeback, and this time it’s not coming back as another mobile-only live service game. AUGUST Inc. is currently working on a new version of the Macross rhythm game for Steam, iOS, and Android. They’re bringing back the game that was originally known as Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture before its service ended in 2022.

The company, headquartered in Tokyo, says the new Uta Macross is being developed as a premium title. There’s also a crowdfunding campaign on the way, with CAMPFIRE scheduled to launch on September 10th, 2026. The motive of the campaign is to help fund the revival, potentially expand the number of supported platforms, and give the team room to add new songs and other content later on.

Now that Uta Macross is making a comeback, let me ask you…

Did you play the original? If yes, then the new version should still feel familiar to you. Uta Macross brings together singers and pilots from across the Macross franchise and lets players play through songs of different generations of the series.

The revived version is set to include characters and music connected to The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta. It will include characters from both their TV series and theatrical films.

A lot of the stuff from the old live service version is also being carried over, including live performances and artwork. The devs are rebuilding the game system for its offline release, with the controls being adjusted. On Steam in particular, you’ll be able to use a keyboard and mouse.

The Standard Edition is planned to start with approximately 50 songs. There’ll also be more than 1,000 Plates with 4-star-or-higher rarity. Also, it will have more than 20 outfits for each singer available from the beginning.

The best part about the Uta Macross comeback is the gacha system. The system used for increasing the rarity of owned Plates is planned to be completely free to play, and pulls will be unlimited. On top of that, multiple DLC packs will launch at the same time for the game.
